Yarn and knitting supplies needed for Veterans’ project

RSVP volunteers make lap robes and afghans for veterans at VA Centers, shelters and senior residences. Yarn may be dropped off at our RSVP office in Camp Hill, between 9am and 4pm weekdays. Please call before delivering. A cart is available for transfer from your vehicle. We can arrange to pick up large quantities. In addition to yarn (no rug yarn please), we also need other knitting supplies.

RSVP partners with schools, food banks and shelters by collecting and distributing hats, mittens, gloves, socks, scarves and personal care items. If you have other handmade needle-arts items that you would like to donate, we would appreciate your collaboration. Cash donations are also welcomed.

If you know of veterans in residence that are in need of any of the items mentioned above, please contact us. RSVP of the Capital Region is a 501[c]3 non-profit community benefit organization that has been assisting volunteers throughout the Susquehanna Valley for more than forty years.

To donate or inquire, please contact Juli Obaya at 800-870-2616 or email

Help Fight Hunger at Community Day for Steelton-Highspire Family & Friends

SrCorpsPENNAsmallLed by 7th grade science teacher Bernadette Rhodes, the Steelton-Highspire Science Club invites you to join them for food, fun and information for the whole family on Saturday, August 6 from 12 noon to 3 pm in their Garden at the high school.

As multiyear participants of ‘The Garden of Youth’ (a cross-generational mentoring program administered by RSVP of the Capital Region Inc.), the Science Club has enlisted a team of supporters to help them develop through the development and maintenance of the Garden.

With the help of this caring network of support, club members tackle a variety of challenges that range from homework assistance to food production throughout the year.  This year, the Science Club is teaming up with Steel High athletes to maximize food production and help the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank provide fresh produce to local communities.

Who are these students?  Who are the athletes?  Who is supporting their development?  How can YOU benefit?  Please come and find out. This is a free eventFor more information, or to RSVP your attendance, please contact Rick Sayles at 717-541-9521 or 717-739-4604 or
